Town of Ocean Isle Beach

HURRICANE MATTHEW UPDATE (10-9-16)

TRACKING MATTHEW OIB -
Posted on Sunday October 09, 2016

The bridge to Ocean Isle Beach is closed to all traffic due to the island not having power. When power is restored the bridge will be open to property owners only. A curfew is in effect until 6:00 am on Monday.

An initial inspection of the island shows little to minor damage to homes. The east end of the island did experience severe over wash and damage to the lower levels of the homes. Heron Court in Island Park has collapsed and is impassable. We will not be able to allow property owners onto the island until we are able to restore power due to sewer. Please know we are working diligently to restore our Town back to order in order to allow our property owners access.

At the present time power is only available in spotty areas of the island. The county is repairing a broken force main on Ocean Isle Beach Road. Once that main is repaired and power is restored to the island Town crews will work diligently to restore our sewer service. We are just now able to post to our website and mass email due to no prior internet service. Please continue to monitor this site for details.

Town staff has worked around the clock since Friday to ensure the safety of our residents. Please note that we are actively trying to keep residents informed in spite of the lack of internet access, electricity, and intermittent cell/data service. Your safety is of utmost importance to us.

Please contact Daisy Ivey Town Administrator at daisy@oibgov.com with any questions or concerns.
