The opioid epidemic is now a National and North Carolina crisis with an average of four North Carolinians per day dying from an opioid overdose. 48% of those deaths involved prescription opioids. In 2016 for the first time in years, unintentional poisoning was the leading cause of injury death to North Carolinians, surpassing motor vehicle deaths.

Operation Medicine Drop provides safe disposal of medications without endangering the environment and eliminating the risk of these drugs getting into the hands of our children and teens from medicine cabinets of friends or family.

Since 2010, the Operation Medicine Drop campaigns have:
• Collected nearly 106 million pills;
• Supported over 3000 events;
• Serviced more than 250 Drop Boxes.

Operation Medicine Drop campaigns remind our citizens of the medications in their cabinets and provide them with a safe and secure way to properly dispose of unwanted, and unused medications.
