System Pressure Advisory: Southern Brunswick County
Bolivia, NC – The water consumers of Brunswick County Public Utilities in the southern end of Brunswick County, from Shallotte to the South Carolina state line, are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a break in a 24 inch water main in Shallotte.
Repairs are underway but are likely to continue throughout the day, and customers should be prepared to be without water all day.
Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system. Therefore, Brunswick County Public Utilities and the Division of Water Resources advises that once water is restored, consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.
Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.
Brunswick County Public Utilities customers in the southern end of Brunswick County are asked not to irrigate today to help conserve water as repairs are made to a break in a 24 inch water main in Shallotte.
Crews are confident that water will be restored before the end of the day today and that vacationers do not need to leave the beach.
Shallotte Park, Ocean Isle Beach Park, and Waccamaw Park will be closed today due to the water main break.
This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued.
