OIBFD Announces New Assistant Fire Chief

Please join us in congratulating Bob Prevatt on his promotion to Assistant Chief of the OIBFD! Bob has over 20 years of firefighting and leadership experience to include volunteer, combination, and military organizations. Bob previously worked with the OIBFD before leaving to serve in the military as a contract firefighter/officer. Bob holds numerous firefighting certifications through the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal and the United States Department of Defense; additionally, Bob is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and a Level II Fire Inspector. Bob is currently seeking his Associate degree in Fire Science Technology. 


We also congratulate Jeff Thom on his promotion to Fire Engineer (“A” Shift). Jeff brings years of leadership and management skills from his previous roles at Delta Airlines. Jeff has been with the fire department as a senior firefighter since 2019, is certified through the Office of State Fire Marshal in numerous disciplines and is Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Bridgewater State College. 


A recent restructure of the fire department also created a new "Senior" Captain position. Captain Colin Cruikshank has demonstrated the skills and knowledge to assist the chiefs with additional administrative duties and directly oversee the other captains. Colin obtained numerous certifications through the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal in various disciplines and has worked for the Town of Ocean Isle Beach for 10 years. Colin holds an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from Mass Bay Community College.
