Ocean Isle Beach provides both Planning and Inspections for its residents, as well as residents within the extra-territorial jurisdiction.

The function of the Planning Department is to ensure desirable growth within the Town’s jurisdiction and to regulate zoning and various code enforcement functions. The Planning Department also enforces the Coastal Area Management Act's (CAMA) local permitting program issues zoning permits and violations.

The purpose of the Inspections Department is to provide minimum standards for the protection of life, limb, health, property, and environment, and for the safety and welfare of the consumer, general public, and the owners and occupants of residential and commercial buildings by providing residents and contractors with inspections consistent with the North Carolina Building Codes. The Inspections Department performs Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Inspections. All aspects of development within the Ocean Isle Beach Town limits must be granted authorization by the Planning and Inspections Department. Our staff is available to assist you with the permitting process and any questions you might have along the way.
