Fire Department

"Message from the Chief"

Fire Chief Blue BornThank you for visiting our department's webpage. As the Fire Chief of the Town of Ocean Isle Beach, I want to welcome you to our community. I am honored to serve with a staff of highly dedicated, trained, and caring men and women, all of whom live up to our organization's vision to "strive to be our best" every day.

The Town of Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department is a combination department that protects our coastal island, waterways, and mainland territory while providing mutual aid to our neighboring communities. The department has come a long way since the mid-1970s when the OIB Fire Protection Association was established and operated by all volunteers. Dedicated to the Town, the department focused on fire firefighting with an engine and a "makeshift" tanker. In 1999 the current Fire Station was dedicated at 105 Causeway Drive. On May 13, 2008, the Town adopted a Resolution to establish the Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department, thus dissolving the OIB Fire Protection Association and absorbing the association into a Town Department.

Community expectations and the growth of our response territory have increased significantly over the years. The Town of Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department has become an all-hazards organization with an ISO split rating of 3/9. The staff proudly serves and supports those who reside in, work in, or visit our community with three shifts of career staff supported by our selfless, dedicated volunteers around the clock, 365 days a year. We encompass a vital and trusted link between our community stakeholders, neighboring fire departments, local Law Enforcement agencies, and non-profit organizations.

The department offers community-wide, risk-reduction, non-emergency programs, including fire prevention guidance, beach and canal safety information, golf cart safety, and ways to prepare for, and respond to, natural disasters. The department is honored to have Town Commissioners and a Town Administrator that support our response to the community, providing the most up-to-date equipment and resources to our year-round and visiting populations. Last year we responded to over 1,200 calls. In peak months, our daily population can exceed 27,000.

I encourage you to navigate the links in the left-hand sidebar for more information about our department and volunteer opportunities. We also invite you to stop by the station or the Summer Concerts to meet our dedicated team of trained and ready professionals and volunteers – "The Beach Boys."
